Rupee down on sustained buying of US dollar

10:06 AM

Forex tips: The rupee fell 12 paise to 63.67 against the US dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to rise in the greenback's value against other global currencies. Forex dealers attributed the fall to the dollar's strength on jump in US core inflation and demand for the American currency from importers. Besides, a lower opening in the domestic stock market weighed on the rupee. The rupee had gained 12 paise to end at 63.52 against the dollar in the previous session on Friday on sustained selling of the American currency by banks and exporters.

Russian rouble edges higher at opening

Russia's rouble opened stronger on Monday, helped by end-of-month tax payments that require exporters to convert forex earnings into roubles and stable oil prices. At 07:05 GMT, the rouble was around 0.3 per cent stronger against the dollar at 49.89 and gained 0.3 per cent to trade at 54.90 versus the euro.Brent crude oil, an important driver for Russian assets as oil is the country's main export, was little changed at $65.3 a barrel. Russian share indices edged slightly lower in early trade.
