Rupee Climbs 24 Paise Against Dollar As Oil Rebounds

The Rupee rose 24 paise to 66.78 against the US Dollar in early trade on Friday amid hopes that a rebound in crude oil prices globally may halt outflows from emerging markets (EMs).

The Rupee had ended 7 paise lower to settle at a fresh 29-month low of 68.02 on Thursday.
 
Most Asian currencies were trading higher against the greenback. Korean won advanced 0.77 per cent. Taiwanese dollar (up 0.46 per cent), Malaysian ringgit (up 0.44 per cent), Indonesian rupiah (0.27 per cent) and Thai baht (0.14 per cent) remained some Asian currencies which rose in Friday's trade.
 
Chinese yuan was flat while Japanese yen inched up 0.04 per cent.
 
The rupee has fallen 2.75 per cent against the US dollar so far this year. It has been the worst performance in the Asia pack.
 
The Dollar index, which tracks the movement of dollar against a basket of six major world currencies, rose 0.22 per cent to 99.26 as euro declined to a two-week low against the greenback after the ECB president Mario Draghi hinted at further stimulus for the euro zone in March.
 
Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures have climbed above $29.70 per barrel mark.
